unexpectedly on Monday,

November 25, 2019 at his

farm near Butte, ND.

Harry Eugene Bergstad

was born on February 27,

1947, a son of Bernard

and Julia (Degenstein)

Bergstad in Minot, ND. He

was raised and educated

in the Velva area, where

he graduated from Velva

High School in 1965. Har-

ry furthered his education

by attending the Minot

State Teachers College,

where he graduated with

a Bachelor of Science in

education degree in 1970.

He went on to student

teach at the Granville

Public School, and was a

business teacher at the

Karlsruhe High School.

On August 15, 1980,

Harry was united in mar-

riage to Betty Hanson in

Velva, ND. They made

their home on the

Bergstad farm, where they

raised their three

daughters Alysia, Shawna

and Amanda. Together

they raised small grains

and beef cattle.

Harry was very active

within the community of

Butte and McHenry Coun-

ty, he served on the

McHenry County Com-

mission, St. Paul’s Church

Council, and McHenry

County Insurance Board.

He could often be found

having morning coffee in

Butte. He loved playing

poker and dominoes with

family and friends.

He enjoyed the out-

doors working, hunting

and recently traveling

with Betty to Arizona, Ni-

agara Falls, and Banff, Ca-

nada in their camper. Har-

ry was a loving husband,

father, grandfather, broth-

er and friend and will be

missed by all that knew

him.

Harry is survived by:

Wife of 39 years, Betty;

three daughters: Shawna

Bergstad, Amanda (Nick)

Shattuck and Alysia

(Aaron) Huck,; grandchil-

dren: Gavin, Jager, Kaysia,

Ayla, Aacen, and baby

Asher due in January; si-

blings: Mona Johnson,

Kenneth (Mary) Bergstad,

Alan (Nora) Bergstad,

James Bergstad, and Judy

Fowler; brothers and

sisters-in-law: Teresa Erie,

Alfred (Sandy) Hanson,

Keith (Geri) Hanson,

Catherine Hellweg,

Ronald (Kari) Hanson,

Carol (Arthur) Yri, and

Bruce (Christine) Hanson;

several nieces, nephews

and cousins also survive.

Harry was preceded in

death by his parents,

grandchild Zoey, brother

Albert, brothers-in-law,

Harlan Johnson, Steven

Fowler, Donald Erie,

sister-in-law Pam Hanson

and a niece Jodi Johnson.
