Charles Hagen

Charles “Butch” Hagen,

71, Minot, formerly of

Tioga and Bismarck, ND,

passed away Friday, Oc-

tober 11, 2019, in his

home.

Charles Allan Hagen III

was born August 11, 1948,

to Charles and Henrietta

(Vatsvog) Hagen Michael-

son in Bottineau, North

Dakota. He attended Up-

ham Public school and

graduated in 1966.

Charles attended the

University of North Dako-

ta and studied laboratory

science. While enrolled,

he was an active member

of the ROTC. After school,

Charlie enlisted in the US

Air Force and served his

country from 1971 until

his honorable discharge in

1975. He earned his

Bachelor of Science in

Medical Technology from

the University of North

Dakota in 1993.

Following his military

service, Charlie worked

for Tioga Medical Center

as a lab technician. It was

during this time that he

met the love of his life,

Shirley Lundt. They were

married on July 2, 1977,

in Tioga, North Dakota. In

1975, he started working

at Amerada Hess in the

lab. He worked his way

up in the company and re-

tired as senior regulatory

specialist in 2011 with 36

years of service to the

company. They moved to

Bismarck in 2011 and to

Minot in 2017.

Charlie loved to listen

to live music, dance, tell

stories, and visit with

anyone he met. He helped

with Rockin’ the Hills for

many years with his

brother-in-law Fred. After

retirement from Amerada

Hess, Charlie worked for

FEMA until he suffered a

stroke. After his stroke,

Charlie could be found

tooling around the neigh-

borhood and around town

on his scooter. He will be

truly missed for his

humor, love of his family,

and fun-loving attitude by

all who shared in his life.

Charles is survived by

his wife Shirley, Minot,

ND; children Ashley

(Erik) Kremer, Rugby, ND,

and Nikki (Kelly) Hase,

Harvey, ND; grandchil-

dren Kale and Brinlee

Hase and Lela and Eli Kre-

mer; brother Terry

(Glenyce) Hagen, Harting

ton, NE; sisters Tangee

Brunsell, Minot, ND, and

Sonja Degner, Milwaukee,

WI, along with numerous

nieces, nephews and

cousins.

Charles was preceded

in death by his parents.

17, 2019, at the Thomas

dan, ND
