Donald Carlson

Jan. 28, 1932-Sept. 12, 2019

Donald Carlson, 87,

New Town, died Thurs-

day, September 12, 2019

in a Minot hospital.

Donald Hagen Carlson

was born January 28,

1932, in Watford City to

Hagen and Esther (Dut-

ton) Carlson. He was

raised in the Sanish area

but spent a few years in

California, during World

War II, with his family.

He graduated in 1951

from Sanish High School.

He was drafted into the

United States Army on

January 15, 1953 and

served in Germany, until

his honorable discharge,

on December 17, 1954.

On August 30, 1959,

Don was united in mar-

riage to Delores Johnson

Hedahl, in Velva. He wel-

comed her three children

as his own and they were

blessed with two more

children. They made their

home in New Town. Don

worked as a carpenter and

co-owned Odegard Carl-

son Construction. He later

joined his business with

Jack Smith. Don slowly

retired in the early 2000s.

Delores passed away on

February 7, 2014.

Don enjoyed wood-

working, fishing, and

hunting upland game and

deer. However, deer hunt-

ing was mostly “lunch

hunting” as Don liked to

watch the other hunters

and rarely shot a deer.

He was a member of

Beck-Sherven American

Legion Post 290 for more

than 60 consecutive years.

He was also a member of

Bethel Lutheran Church

of New Town and served

on its council and once

served as Constable of Os-

borne Township.

Don cherished time

spent with his family and

friends. He looked for-

ward to his daily coffee

club visits. Don also had a

great sense of humor,

often teasing his children,

grandchildren, and

friends. May God bless his

memory among us.

Don is survived by: his

sons, Gorden Hedahl

(Jean Loudon) of River

Falls, WI and John Carl-

son of Hamilton, MT;

daughters, Karen Rohde

(Brad) of Garrison, ND

and Joan Weyrauch

(Scott) of Glendale, AZ;

grandchildren, Marc

Hedahl, (Abby) Melissa

Kirkendall (Jeremy), Car-
