Mary Wardlow

Mary Helen Wardlow,

94, New Town, died

Wednesday, August 7,

2019, in a Stanley hospi-

tal. Mary was born on

October 28, 1924, in

Williston, the daughter of

George and Hulda (Ander-

son) Judd. She was raised

on a farm outside of Ray

and attended Ray Public

Schools, where she gra-

duated from high school.

She then moved to Cali-

fornia and went to work

for Lockheed. While

working, she met her fu-

ture husband, Arthur Mac

Wardlow, who was from

Kentucky. They were un-

ited in marriage on April

12, 1943. When Arthur

was called to serve in

World War II, Mary re-

turned to North Dakota

and lived with her parents

on the farm. Their first

daughter, Linda, was born

while she was living on

the farm. Following the

war, they moved back to

California and Mary went

to Beauty School.

In 1948, they moved

back to Ray and Arthur

worked for Farmers Union

Oil Company. The next

year they moved to San-

ish, where Mac managed

Farmers Union and they

had another daughter,

Leslie Gay. The family

moved to New Town in

1953, where Arthur con-

tinued as manager at

Farmers Union. Mary

kept books for a few years

at the station.

Their daughter, Mary

Dianne, was born in 1956.

Mac and Mary purchased

the Ben Franklin store

and operated it until re-

tirement. Mary loved the

lake and entertaining fam-

ily and friends on their

houseboat. She also en-

joyed traveling. She was

a member of Bethel Luth-

eran Church, New Town.

Following Mac’s death on

December 29, 2006, Mary

continued to make New

Town her home.

Mary is survived by her

daughters, Linda Odegard

(Gerry), Mary Dianne

Wardlow (Joe Dickhut);

grandchildren, Michael

Odegard (Betsy), Stewart

Aadness (Jennifer), Allis-

on Curnett and Julie

Bayne (Matt); six great-

grandchildren; sister, Ann

Rogers; and several

nieces, nephews and

cousins.

She was preceded in

death by her parents; hus-

band; daughter, Leslie;

granddaughter, Kristen

Odegard, grandson, Joel

Clark; sister, Jo Men-

denhall; and brother, Tom

Judd.

Graveside Service: Sa-

turday, August 17, 2019,

at 2:00 pm in the New

Town Cemetery

There will be a fellow-

ship following the com-

mittal service. A Celebra-

tion of Mary’s Life will be

held at a later date.
