Irene Willert

Irene Willert, 88, Minot,

passed away on Sunday,

June 2, 2019, with her

family by her side.

Irene Olive Saude was

born on June 10, 1930,

daughter of Oliver and Ida

(Burke) Saude on the fam-

ily farm near Barton, ND.

She was raised and edu-

cated in Pierce County,

graduating from Barton

High School in 1948.

Irene furthered her educa-

tion, traveling by train to

attend Minot State Teach-

ers College, where she

earned her Teaching Cer-

tificate. She then she

taught in a one room

schoolhouse, while stay-

ing at the Christ and Har-

riet Medalen homestead.

On October 5, 1950,

Irene was united in mar-

riage to Robert S. Willert

at the Free Lutheran

Church in Barton, ND. To-

gether they farmed in

Ward and Pierce counties.

In 1962, they moved to

Minot, where Irene was a

homemaker.

Irene enjoyed working

in the garden, camping,

canning and was an excel-

lent seamstress.

She is survived by:

Children: Galen Willert,

Karen (Wendell) Olson,

Colleen Willert, Marjorie

(Brian, PhD.) Thomas,

Daniel (Mary) Willert; Si-

blings: Clarice (Philip)

Fossum; eleven grandchil-dren: six

great-grandchildren;

many nieces, nephews

and cousins also survive.

Irene was preceded in

death by: her parents, her

husband of 68 years

Robert, a son Roger, and a

grandson.

Visitation: There will be

no reviewal, however

friends may sign a guest

register on Monday, one

hour prior to the service

at the chapel.

am at Thompson Larson

Funeral Home Chapel,

Minot.

A joint graveside ser-

vice will take place Mon-

day, June 17, 2019, fol-

lowing Irene’s funeral ser-

vice at Rosehill Memorial

Park, Minot, for Irene and

her husband, Robert S.

Willert, who passed away

at the age of 92 on Friday,

February 22, 2019. Robert

will be receiving military

honors, for his time

served during WWII.
