Laurel Irwin

Laurel Irwin, 93, Man-

dan, formerly of Minot

died Sunday, May 5, 2019

in her son’s home.

Laurel was born Oc-

tober 27, 1925 in Newman

Township of Ward Coun-

ty, North Dakota to John

and Olga (Larson) Bunker.

She attended country

schools near her home

and in Sawyer, ND. She

graduated from Minot

High School in 1943.

Following her gradua-

tion from high school,

Laurel joined the work-

force at Northwest Bell

Telephone Company as a

telephone operator. She

worked her way to super-

visor and then group chief

operator of the company

spending thirty-three and

a half years with the com-

pany. She retired in 2001.

Then she worked

part-time at Sax Maternity

and Clothing.

Laurel was united in

marriage to Bernie Irwin

on September 26, 1948 in

Minot. They built a home

on Soo Street in 1950 and

called it home. They pur-

chased the Claude Irwin

family farm in 1964, and

moved there in 1975. In

2015 they moved to Man-

dan and lived with their

son.

Laurel was a member of

First Assembly of God in

Minot.

Laurel’s loving family

includes 2 children, Linda

Reid, Canton, OH and

Bruce (Wenjin) Irwin,

Mandan, ND; 5 grandchil-dren, Andrea (Craig) Cal-

kins, Levi (Katherine)

Reid, Hannah (James)

Browning, Lisa (Jay)

McInerney and Philip

(Suzanne) Irwin; 12

great-grandchildren in-

clude, Bailey, Samuel and

Joel Calkins, Theo and

Haley Reid, Eliza and

Eleanor Browning, Ezra

and Leo St. Marie, and

Benmont, Corbin and Eis-

ley Irwin; sister-in-law

Ethel Irwin and Marcella

Irwin with numerous

nieces and nephews.

Laurel was preceded in

death by her parents, hus-

band, Bernard, sister

Dorothy Johnson and sis-

ter Barbara Bauer.

Funeral service: 2:00

p.m. Friday, May 10, 2019

at First Assembly of God,

Minot.

Interment: Rosehill

Memorial Park, Minot

Visitation will be held

on Thursday, May 9, 2019

from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00

p.m. at the Thomas Fami-

ly Funeral Home, Minot.
