Helen Schock, 83,
Garrison, formerly of
Benedict, died on Mon-
day, May 20, 2019 at Trin-
ity Hospital in Minot.
Funeral services will be
held on Monday at 11:00
am at Concordia Lutheran
Church in Benedict. Buri-
al will be held at the
Garrison City Cemetery at
2:30 pm.
Visitation will be held
on Monday from 9 am un-
til the time of services at
the church.
Helen was born in Ken-
mare, ND to Isaac and
Gertie (Schaner) Melin on
September 24, 1935 one of
9 siblings. She grew up
on the family farm at Nor-
ma, ND where she attend-ed rural school and high
school. Helen spent the
next couple years helping
neighbors with their chil-
dren and housework.
Helen married Carl
Schock on November 1,
1954 in Underwood, ND.
They lived south of
Benedict for 4 years be-
fore moving to Norma to
Helen’s maternal parents
farmstead where they
lived for 10 years. They
returned to Carl’s family’s
farm in 1969 where they
continued to farm. Upon
their retirement they
moved into Benedict
where Helen helped at the
post office window. Carl
passed away November
20, 2002. Helen continued
to live in Benedict where
she was active in the
church ladies aid and the
American Legion Auxili-
ary. She became a
resident of the Benedic-
tine Living Center in
Garrison on September 1,
2016.
Helen is survived by:
her daughter, Dorothy
(Curtis) Kohler, Max, ND;
three grandchildren, Clin-
ton (Shelly) Kohler, Man-
dan, ND, Corwin (Ronda)
Kohler, Benedict, ND, Sta-
cy (AJ) Majeres, Garrison,
ND; special nephew, Jam-
ie Lee, Minot, ND;
great-grandchildren, Au-
gust and Sadie Majeres,
Carsen Kohler, and Abbie
Ratts-Lee; special sister,
Marlene (John) Melin; sis-
ters, Ellen Clark, Josie Lar-
son; sisters-in-law, Eunice
Schock, Teresa Schock,
Irene (Bob) Geider, Arvilla
Melin, and several nieces
and nephews.
She was preceded in
death by: her parents,
husband, Carl, brothers,
Robert, Fritz (Dorismae)
Melin, sisters, Lucille
(John) Gottschall, Joan
(LeRoy) Vedaa, Dorothy
Melin, Anna (Carold) Lee,
brothers-in-law, Walter
