Marie Levadney
Nov. 30, 1929-April 6, 2019
Marie Anna Levadney,
89, Minot, died Saturday,
April 6, 2019 in a Minot
Hospital.
Marie was born No-
vember 30, 1929 on the
family farm near Des
Lacs, North Dakota the
oldest of Alfred and Gla-
dys (Rovig) Ness’ six chil-
dren. She was raised in
Torning Township and
graduated from Minot
High School in 1947.
Marie began her teaching
career at the age of 17 in a
one-room school house in
Gasman Township with a
teacher’s certificate. She
later attended and gra-
duated from Minot State
College, where she re-
ceived a bachelor’s degree
in Elementary Education
in 1969.
Marie taught at Harris-
on School for three years
and South Prairie School
for six years. She then be-
gan employment with
Minot Public Schools
teaching for more than 22
years, 18 years at North
Plains Elementary at the
Minot Air Force Base and
later at Lincoln Elementa
ry for four years, retiring
in 1991.
Marie was also a farm
wife, marrying Lawrence
Levadney on August 17,
1949. They made their
home on a farm South of
Sawyer for many years.
From this union two
daughters were born,
Joyce and Deborah and a
son, Ronald, who died in
infancy.
Marie was a member of
Zion Lutheran Church,
Minot, where she was ac-
tive in singing with the
Church choir and served
on the Church council.
She was also active in a
number of other capaci-
ties, including a member
of the Golden Oaks PTA,
Eagles Club, Women of
the Moose, Retired Teach-
ers’ Association, AARP,
Sons of Norway and Hap-
piness Group.
Marie was what we
would call the ultimate
farm woman, raising a big
garden, canning, raising
chickens, milking cows
and even helping to
deliver calves. She was an
excellent cook and seam-
stress, sewing many
dresses for her family and
friends. She loved hosting
large family dinners and
special events. Her family
and children were very
important to her, keeping
up with and attending
every event. She often
commented how much
she loved the farm life.
Blessed be her memory!
