Evelyn Dennis

Evelyn Dennis, 107,

Minot, went to be with

her Lord on Friday,

February 8, 2019, in a

Garrison nursing home.

Evelyn was born on

June 12, 1911, in St. Bos-

wells, Saskatchewan, to

John and Genevieve (Gos-

tischef) Hotz. She was

raised and educated in

that area. She attended

college for one year before

enrolling in Peggy’s Beau-

ty College in Minot.

Evelyn met her future

husband, Bill Dennis, Sr.,

while attending school in

Minot. In 1938, they wed

in Minot. They temporari-ly made their home in

Sheridan, WY, where Bill

was employed by Gamble

Robinson Wholesale Gro-

cery. They returned to

Minot in 1939 where they

raised their two sons and

maintained a primary

residence for the

remainder of their lives.

During her professional

career, Evelyn was em-

ployed at several Minot

beauty salons, including

Peggy’s, Benny’s, Ruelle’s

and Goldie’s. She also

managed Ruelle’s Salon

for seventeen years before

operating her own salon,

Evelyn’s Beauty Shop, in

Minot’s Midwest Federal

Building. She owned and

operated this business for

fifteen years. She partici-

pated in local, state, and

national associations of

hairdressers and was a

member of the Cosmetolo-gy Association of North

Dakota. She received spe-

cial recognition and an

award for fifty years of

service as a hair dresser.

After retiring, Bill and

Evelyn spent eighteen

winters in Indio, CA.

Throughout her life,

Evelyn was a member of

First Baptist Church. Her

hobbies and special in-

terests included knitting

and crocheting quilts for

underprivileged children,

painting, and staying

current on local and na-

tional news. Most recent-

ly, Evelyn resided at

Marion Heights, Trinity

Retirement Home,

Brentmoor, and the

Benedictine Living Center

in Garrison.

Evelyn was preceded in

death by: her parents,

John and Genevieve; hus-

band, Bill Dennis, Sr.;

granddaughter, Amy

Dennis; and siblings:

Pearl Becker, Marian Mor-

den, Hazel Hotz, and Ho-

ward, Vernon, Wallace,

Arthur, Clarence and Dor-

land Hotz.

Evelyn’s loving family

and Garrett Dennis; Noah

III, USA, and First Lieu-
