Richard “Rick” A. Johnson

Richard “Rick” A. John-

son, 71, Lignite, ND,

passed away unexpect-

edly on Saturday, No-

vember 10, 2018 in his

home.

Richard was born on

April 23, 1947, the son of

Alvin and Kate (Paulsrud)

Johnson in McVille, ND.

His mother sadly passed

away when Richard was

six years old; his father

would meet and marry

Ethel “Dolly” (Randklev)

Johnson, who helped raise

Rick. He attended area

schools, graduating from

Glenfield High School in

May of 1965.

On May 2, 1967, Rick

enlisted into the United

States Army. He proudly

served his country during

the Vietnam Conflict, and

was honorably discharged

on May 1, 1969.

Rick was united in mar-

riage to Betty Ann Tollef-

son on July 11, 1970.

They made their home in

Petersburg, Karlsruhe and

Lignite, where Rick was

employed as a grain eleva-

tor manager for about 12

years. He also worked for

Customs Border Patrol

(CBP) for 23 years until

his retirement in 2010.

During his retirement

years, Rick farmed and

hauled grain for area

farmers.

He was a member of

Christ Lutheran Church,

Lignite, Lions Club and

the Lignite Fire Depart-

ment.

Rick is survived by:

Wife of 48 years, Betty;

Sons: Bradley David (Em-

ilee) Johnson; Derek

Michael Johnson;

Grandchildren: Riley

Derek and Carter Owen

Johnson; Siblings: Janice

(Gaylan) Bunas, David

(Laurie) Johnson; and

several nieces, nephews

and cousins.

Rick was preceded in

death by his parents, Kate

and Alvin; step-mother,

Ethel; and a son Blain

infant brother.

at 1:00 p.m. at Christ

Lutheran Church, Lignite,

ND.

Burial: A private family

committal service will

take place at a later date.
