Ralph Modin

Ralph Luther Modin Jr.,
70, of Kenmare, ND,
passed away on No-
vember 24, 2018 in Ken-
mare. Ralph was born in
Minot on August 13,
1948, the son of Ralph
and Ella (Watland) Modin.
He was raised on the fam-
ily farm in Kenmare.
Ralph attended Spencer
Township country school
and graduated from Ken-
mare High School in
1966. He attended Oak
Hills Bible College and
NDSCS Wahpeton where
he received his certifica-
tion in automotive
mechanics. Ralph joined
the Army Reserve in 1969.
Ralph served in the Army
Reserve as a combat med-
ic for six years. He spent
many hours caring for
wounded Soldiers from
the Vietnam War. He was
honored to have had the
opportunity to serve his
country.
Ralph was united in
marriage to Sandra Daae
of Estevan, Saskatchewan
on December 18, 1971.
They lived on the family
farm southwest of Ken-
mare where they raised
their three children Lyn-
don, Shana, and Brenna.
Ralph spent countless
hours working on the
farm, custom spraying,
helping neighbors, owner
of Lakeside Performance,
Oilfield work, and engag-
ing in many of his count-
less hobbies: driving the
#24 at Nodak Speedway,
flying planes, racing
snowmobiles from Regina
to Minot or working in his
shop. He loved his grand-
children and spent time
playing bull, fixing up
four-wheelers for them to
ride at the farm, or at-
tending their activities.
They always knew Grand-
pa Ralph was there when
they heard the “cowbell.”
He had a passion for help-
ing people no matter how
much or little they had.
He was our rock and hero.
Surviving family in-
cludes: His loving wife of
46 years, Sandy. His chil-
dren, Lyndon (Lori)
Modin, Fargo, Shana
(Levi) Haugenoe, Crosby
and Brenna (Joey) Thomp-
son, Minot; 9 beloved
grandchildren, Cadence,
Barrett and Hunter
Modin, Tate, Brodie, Mad-
dyn and Sutton Hau-
genoe, and Cashton and
Brooks Thompson; si-
blings, Wanda (Jim) Ro-
din, Kenmare, Marie
Modin, Sanford, FL and
Brance (Kathy) Modin,
Clouquet, MN; sister-in-
law, Melanie (Tracey)
Memory, Estevan,
Saskatchewan, and
numerous cousins, nieces
and nephews.
Ralph was preceded in
death by his parents,
Ralph and Ella Modin;
and his father and moth-
er-in-law, Gordon and
Leatrice Daae.
A celebration of
Ralph’s life will be held:
Thursday, November 29,
2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Faith
Baptist Church, Kenmare,
ND.
Visitation: Wednesday
from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at
Thompson-Larson Fun-
eral Home, Kenmare, ND.
