Larry Spilde

Larry Spilde, 79, Minot,
ND, passed away Sunday,
November 4, 2018, in a
Minot care center.
Larry Allan Spilde was
born October 9, 1939, the
son of Chauncy and
Theresa (Hage) Spilde, on
the family farm in North
Prairie Township, Gran-
ville, ND. He attended a
rural school house, and
later, grade school in Vel-
va, ND. He graduated
from Velva High School
in 1957.
Larry began working for
the VA Hospital and Re-
gional Office Center in Ft.
Harrison, MT on July 1,
1957. In December of
1958, he transferred to the
VA Hospital in Minot. In
June of 1959, Larry
transferred to the VA Hos-
pital in Los Angeles, CA,
and later to Long Beach,
CA in November of 1959.
Larry enlisted in the
United States Air Force
on March 12, 1962. He
was Airmen of the Month
in March of 1963. He
proudly served his coun-
try until being honorably
discharged on March 4,
1966.
Larry returned to Long
Beach following his
discharge. He resigned in
August of 1968 and re-
turned to ND, where he
attended Valley City State
University, graduating
with a BS Degree in May
of 1971. In July of 1971 he
was hired at the VA Hos-
pital in Albuquerque, NM,
where he was promoted to
Assistance Chief of Sup-
ply Service in July of
1972.
Larry worked at the VA
Hospital in Kerrville, TX
until February of 1974,
when he was promoted to
Assistant Chief Supply in
Omaha, NE. He would
later be promoted at the
VA Hospitals in Grand Is-
land, NE, White River
Junction, VT and again in
Omaha, NE. Larry re-
ceived many Superior
Performance Awards dur-
ing his years with the VA
Medical Centers. He re-
tired on June 3, 1994 and
returned to Minot in Oc-
tober of that year.
Larry was a life member
of the Minot American Le-
gion, Post 26, the Vietnam
Veterans of America and
also the Disabled Ameri-
can Veterans of Omaha,
NE. He was a former
member of both the Elks
and Eagles Clubs.
Surviving family in-
cludes: Sister, Lillian
Hammer, Kalispell, MT;
brother, Warren (Carol)
Spilde, Towner; nieces
and nephews, Audrey
(Adrian) Valli, Rocky
Mountain House, Alberta,
Kathy (Lance) Junjar, Kal-
ispell, MT, Greg (Karen)
Hammer, Millington, TN,
Wendy (Dave) Ellingson,
Minot and Dr. Troy (Mar-
go) Spilde, Springfield,
MO; and numerous
cousins, great and
great-great-nieces and
nephews.
Larry was preceded in
death by his parents and
his brother-in-law, Jerry
Hammer.
Funeral: Wednesday,
November 7, 2018, at 3:00
p.m. at Thompson-Larson
Funeral Home, Minot,
ND.
Interment: Rosehill
Memorial Park, Minot,
ND.
Visitation: There will be
