Phyllis “Toni” Evans

April 1, 1950-Aug. 29, 2018

Phyllis “Toni” Evans,

born April 1, 1950, died

in her home on August

29, 2018 after a 10 month

battle with cancer. Let’s

not give cancer any credit

here though, as the last

year was just a blip in her

full and generous life.

Born to Hubert and

Wilhelmina Seghers, one

of 10 siblings, Toni was

raised in Hansboro, ND.

She graduated from Rolla

High School in 1968.

After receiving a business

degree in 1969, she mar-

ried Gene Evans on Au-

gust 30, 1969. Their life

together was filled with

fun, hard work, and gen-

erous acts to those who

crossed their paths. To-

gether they lived in a

variety of locations in-

cluding Hardin, MT,

where their first daughter,

Natasha, was born.

They also lived in

numerous locations

throughout North Dakota

while Gene worked road

construction. They settled

in Berthold, ND in 1978,

shortly after their second

daughter, Danica, was

born. They lived in Bert-

hold for 22 years and dur-

ing this time built a suc-

cessful business together.

In the year 2000 they

moved to Minot, ND and

began their retirement.

Anyone who knows them

would know, retirement

included work just as

their working years did,

this time with their beau-

tiful yard and Toni keep-

ing up with, and basically

running from the back-

ground, whatever new

project Gene was working

on. In 2014, their first

grandchild, Edith

Schaefer, was born and

Toni lovingly spent many

days following, playing

with, and watching Edie

grow. The year 2016

brought the birth of her

first grandson, Phillip

Schaefer, who also

brought much joy to her

life.

Toni was a remarkable

woman, able to make any-

one who entered her pres-

ence feel comfortable

around her. She was a

daughter, wife, mother,

aunt, friend, and possibly

her favorite role, grand-

mother. She is already

greatly missed by her fam-

ily.
