tember 1, 2018, in a
Minot, ND hospital.
Mildred Marie McNeal
was born September 22,
1919, the daughter of El-
bert “Guy” and Margaret
(Ackerman) McNeal, in
Elmdale Township, Ward
County, ND. She was
raised and educated in
Elmdale Township and
was baptized and con-
firmed at St. Agnes
Catholic Church of Ken-
mare.
Mildred married
Clarence Savelkoul on
May 26, 1939 in Kenmare.
They made their home in
Tolley and Lansford, ND
and from this union, three
children were born: Carol,
Mary and Ed. Clarence
passed away in 1946.
On October 22, 1949,
Mildred was united in
marriage with David
Schmitz in Kenmare at St.
Agnes Catholic Church.
They made their home in
Kenmare, and from this
union two more children
were born: Geralyn “Geri”
and Kelvin.
Mildred was a cook at a
number of restaurants in
Kenmare. In 1961, David
began leasing and operat-
ing the Westland Service
Station in Kenmare. He
later purchased the sta-
tion in 1974, renaming it
Dave’s Transmission Ser-
vice. Throughout the
course of over 45 years at
the service station, Mil-
dred worked alongside
David as the company
bookkeeper. She and Da-
vid moved to Minot in
2015 for health reasons.
Mildred’s faith was of
the utmost importance in
her life, and she was a
very devoted and in-
volved member of St.
Agnes Catholic Church.
She was also a member of
the Lakeview Art Club
and the American Legion
Auxiliary.
Mildred loved creating
art and working in her
flower and vegetable gar-
dens. She was an excel-
lent cook; enjoying cook-
ing, baking and canning.
In her younger years, Mil-
dred enjoyed playing soft-
ball; a favorite pastime
that carried over to a life-
long enjoyment of watch-
ing her favorite baseball
team, the Minnesota
Twins, on television.
Surviving family in-
cludes: Children, Carol
(Richard) Grandbois, Rim-
rock, AZ, Mary Seime,
Black Hawk, CO, Ed (San-
dra) Savelkoul, Sidney,
MT, Kelvin (Shirley)
Schmitz, Bremerton, WA
and Geralyn “Geri” (Paul)
Jacob; Minot; 13
grandchildren; 28
great-grandchildren; 10
great-great-grandchildren;
and numerous nieces,
nephews and cousins.
Mildred was preceded
in death by: parents; first
husband, Clarence Savel-
koul; infant daughter,
Margaret Savelkoul;
son-in-law, Bernell Seime;
great-grandson, Isiac
Savelkoul; and her si-
blings, Marie (Joe) Munch,
Cyril (Charlotte) McNeal,
Herb (Maxine) McNeal,
Agnes (Leonard) Neft and
infant sister, Dorothy
McNeal.
Mass of Christian Buri-
al: Saturday, September 8,
2018, at 10:30 a.m. at St.
Agnes Catholic Church,
Kenmare, ND.
Interment: St. Agnes
Catholic Cemetery, Ken-
mare, ND.
Visitation: One hour
prior, followed by Recita-
tion of the Holy Rosary 30
minutes prior to the fun-
eral mass at the church.
