Maxine L. Johnston 86,
Fargo, formerly of Minot,
died Sunday, August 19,
2018 at Rosewood on
Broadway in Fargo.
Maxine L. Hauge was
born on August 23, 1931,
a daughter of Floyd E. and
Lillian B. (Pederson)
Hauge in Epworth, ND.
She was raised and edu-
cated in the Van Hook
and New Town, ND area
where she graduated from
Van Hook High School in
1949. She furthered her
education by attending
Minnesota Business Col-
lege.
In March of 1958, Max-
ine was united in mar-
riage to Loren Stenson. To
this union three children
were born. The couple
later divorced.
On November 4, 1988,
Maxine was united in
marriage to Kenneth L.
Johnston. They made
their home in Minot,
where she worked as a
CNA at a nursing home,
for the Dakota Boys Ranch
and Assembly of God day-
care.
Maxine was a member
of the Bethlehem Luth-
eran Church, Peace Luth-
eran Church, and First
Lutheran Church. She
was always active with
the Ladies Aid and served
as a Sunday School teach-
er. Maxine was a PTA
member and a member of
the Sons of Norway.
Maxine’s greatest joy
was being a mother. Her
children were always her
priority. Maxine had a
great sense of humor and
loved to laugh. She also
enjoyed dancing to old
time music, being on the
farm-riding horse and col-
lecting rocks, doin stitch
work, learning about heri-
tage and connecting with
relatives in Norway. Max-
ine had a sincere love for
her family and friends
and will be greatly
missed.
Maxine is survived by:
Husband of 29 years, Ken;
Children: Vince (Malissa)
Stenson, Lee. (Tammy)
Stenson, Jana (Brian)
Stenson Kreie; Six grand-
children: Adam (Kristin)
Stenson, Taylor Stenson,
Kelsey (Curtis) Watson,
Cole (Clara) Stenson, Jace
Stenson, Jule Stenson;
three great-grandchildren:
Ryker, Maizy, and River;
one sister: Janis (Arden)
Thompson; a niece,
several nephews and
cousins also survive.
Maxine was preceded
in death by her parents
and a brother Floyd “Ter-
ry” Hauge.
Visitation: Friday, Au-
gust 24, 2018 one hour
prior to the service at the
church.
Funeral Service: Fri-
day, August 24, 2018 at
1:00 pm at First Lutheran
Church, Minot.
Burial: Rosehill
Memorial Park, Minot.
Memorials may be
given in Maxine’s name to
the Dakota Boys and Girls
Ranch or First Lutheran
Church of Minot.
