Max Hurdelbrink

SHERWOOD – Max
Hurdelbrink, 90, Minot,
formerly of Sherwood,
died Friday, Aug. 10,
2018, at his home.
He was born May 24,
1928, in Sherwood, to
George and Maurine (Full-
er) Hurdelbrink. He was
raised in Sherwood and
graduated from Sherwood
High School in 1946.
Just prior to graduation,
he joined the U.S. Navy
on March 22, 1946. He
spent eight weeks at boot
camp in San Diego before
boarding the USS
President Jackson on his
way to Japan. He was an
electronics technician,
operating and monitoring
transmitters throughout
Japan. He was sent to
work with equipment in
the caves overtaken from
the Japanese. He worked
closely with high ranking
Japanese Naval officers.
He was honorably
discharged in 1948 and
returned to North Dakota.
He attended NDSU for a
short time, prior to begin-
ning his work with Great
Northern Railroad. He
worked as a relief depot
agent and telegrapher in
northcentral and
northwestern Minnesota,
and also northeastern
North Dakota. In 1955, he
was assigned to his own
depot in Knox. He was
later assigned to the
depots in Upham and
then Sherwood. When
they closed the Sherwood
depot, he was assigned to
the depot in New Rock-
ford. He worked for a time
at Gavin Yard in Minot
prior to retiring in 1990.
On July 16, 1953, Max
married Nona Mae Tupa,
in Crookston, Minn. She
died Jan. 9, 2005. Max
married Leone Bolinske
on May 6, 2005. They
lived in Sherwood until
2010 when they moved to
Minot.
Max was a member of
Living Word Lutheran
Church, Minot, and a
former member of Our Sa-
vior Lutheran Church,
Sherwood. He was a
member of the Sherwood
Masons, the Bothun-
Peterson American Legion
Post #213, the Veterans of
Foreign Wars, the Loyal
Order of the Moose and
the Order of Railroad
Telegraphers. Max en-
joyed farming, animals
(especially his sheep),
visiting and storytelling.

Max was preceded in
death by: his parents; son,
Steven George Hurdel-
brink; brothers, Burl
(Grace) Hurdelbrink, Ben
(Dorothy) Hurdelbrink,
Cloyd (Lozina) Hurdel-
brink; sister, Marilyn
“Sis” (Carlin) Carter; and
special aunt, Emma Hur-
delbrink.
Funeral: 1:30 p.m., Fri-
day, Aug. 17, 2018, at Our
Savior Lutheran Church,
Sherwood.
Burial: Sherwood Un-
ion Cemetery, Sherwood.
Visitation: 2 to 7 p.m.,
Thursday, Aug. 16, 2018,
at Brose Funeral Home,
Mohall.
