Myrtle Mestad Hustad,

98, Jamestown, ND, form-

er longtime Minot

resident, passed into the

Lord’s arms surrounded

by her family on Monday,

April 16th at Ave Maria

Village in Jamestown,

North Dakota.

Myrtle was born March

15, 1920 in Renville

County, near Mohall,

North Dakota. She was

the daughter of Helge and

Rachel (Johnson) Mestad.

She was raised and edu-

cated in Mohall and dur-

ing her younger years

moved with her family to

Minot in 1935. She gra-

duated from Minot High

School in 1938 and at-

tended Trinity School of

Nursing in Minot, gra-

duating with a degree in

nursing in 1941.

Myrtle was employed at

the Veteran’s Hospital in

Hot Springs, SD for a few

years, prior to her mar-

riage to F. Boyd Hustad

on February 2, 1943 in

Minot. She lived in Cali-

fornia for a short time

while he was stationed

overseas during World

War II.

Myrtle and Boyd re-

turned to Minot in 1950,

where she began employ-

ment with the Veterans

Hospital as head nurse in

the surgical ward. She

later became the charge

nurse in the OB Ward at

the John Moses Air Force

Hospital. She retired in

1973 and continued to

work as a relief nurse in

Minot Clinics from

1973-1983. Boyd passed

away on February 5, 1994.

She gave much of her re-

tirement to volunteering

and caring for others. She

continued to live in

Minot, until moving to

Jamestown in 2011 to be

nearer her daughter and

family.

Myrtle was an active

member at First Lutheran

Church, Minot, where she

served with the quilter’s

group and Circle groups,

also serving as past

president of the Ladies

Aid. She was also an ac-

tive member of the Sons

of Norway. She and her

husband were involved

with the origination of the

Trail Rider’s Club. She en-

joyed playing bridge, sew-

ing, cooking, baking, mak-

ing lefse and gardening.

She had great admira-

tion and love for her chil-

dren, grandchildren and

great-grandchildren. They

were so blessed to have

her guidance and faith in

their lives.

Her loving family in-

cludes: children, Kathleen

Wynne, Jamestown & Re-

becca (Peter) Mason,

Pennsylvania; grandchil-

dren, Erin, Elizabeth

“Libby” and her husband,

Brian, Stuart and his wife,

Lauren, Timothy, Luke

and his wife, Amy;

great-grandchildren,

Noah, Caleb, Lucas,

Sarah, Peyton, Zane, Mag-

gie, Molly Myrtle, Jack &

Althea.

Myrtle was preceded in

death by: her parents,

husband of 51 years,

Boyd, brother, Harold and

sisters, Thelma and Eliza-

beth “Betty” Mestad.

Celebration of Life ser-

vice: Friday, April 20,

2018 at 2:00 p.m. in the

Pioneer Chapel of First

Lutheran Church, Minot.

Interment: Sunset

Memorial Gardens, Minot.

Visitation: Thursday,

April 19th from 3:00-6:00

p.m. in Thomas Family

Funeral Home, Minot.
