Richard “Dick” Torgerson

Richard “Dick” Duaine

Torgerson, 70, Minot,

passed away on Tuesday,

January 16, 2018 at Trini-

ty Health in Minot.

Dick was born on

February 19, 1947, to

Given and Erma (Haines)

Torgerson in Minot, North

Dakota. He attended

Minot High School. He

was drafted into the US

Army in July of 1967 and

served as a helicopter

mechanic in Vietnam dur-

ing the Vietnam War. He

returned from the war in

February 1969 and was

honorably discharged.

In 1971, after being set

up on a blind date, he met

the love of his life, Sharon

Steen. They were united

in marriage on April 15,

1972 at Trinity Lutheran

Church in Glenburn, ND

and they made their home

in Surrey and later moved

to Minot. During their 45

years together, they cele-

brated many life changing

events, to include the

birth of their two sons,

Derrick and Donovan,

watching them grow and

start families of their own.

Grandpa Dick was com-

pletely in love with his

four grandchildren and

enjoyed every moment he

could spend with them.

In December of 1974,

Dick started his job at

Sweetheart Bakery as a

loader and over the years

he became a jack-of-all

trade’s master of none

while being employed

there. The Sweetheart

Bakery in Minot closed in

June of 1999. Dick started

working at Aggregate Con-

struction as a shop assis-

tance in January of 2000

and was employed there

until his retirement in Oc-

tober of 2013.

Dick was fan of NAS-

CAR, classic cars, doing

puzzles to include Su-

doku, crosswords, and

word searches and watch-

ing television in his favor-

ite recliner. He was also a

long-time member of

Hope Lutheran in Surrey,

ND. Dick was known for

his quick-witted

responses, which always

kept people laughing and

on their toes. You knew

you were one of his favor-

ite people if he honored

you with a special nick-

name.

Dick is survived by: his

wife; his sons, Derrick

(Amber), Bel Air, MD;

Donovan (Kristin), Rapid

City, SD; grandchildren,

Ally and Zachary Torger-

son; Erika Roth and Kin-

ley Torgerson; his si-

blings, Bev Bredahl, Port-

land, OR, Donna (Mike)

Loreille, Clarksville, TN,

Robert (Midori), San Mar-

tin, CA, Shirley Mur-

nahan, Fort Lauderdale,

FL, Yvonne (Duane)

Rakotz, Roseville, MN,

Cheryl Hankins and her

partner, Earl Garriety,

Port Jervis, NY, and Gary,

Minot, ND;

brother-in-law, Russell

Hansen; sisters-in-law,

Cathy (Jim) DeGree and

Shelly (Terry) Hansen;

brother-in-law, Howard

Steen. Along with several

nieces, great-nieces,

nephews, great-nephews

and a host of friends.

He is preceded in death

by: his parents, Given and

Erma Torgerson; sister

and brother-in-law,

Phyllis and Mike Murphy;

mother-in-law and

father-in-law, Elda Mae

and Howland Steen;

sister-in-law, Becky Han-

sen; brother-in-law,

Donald Steen; and nieces,

Debbie Barreiro and

Renae Hansen.

Funeral: Saturday,

January 20, 2018,at 2:00

p.m. at Hope Lutheran

Church, Surrey.

Interment: Sunset

Memorial Gardens, Minot,

ND.

Visitation: Friday from

4 to 7 p.m. at

Thompson-Larson Fun-

eral Home, Minot.

Memorials: are pre-

ferred to the Hope Luth-

eran Church Playground

Fund.
