Michael Burckhard

Michael Burckhard,

97, Minot, formerly of

Towner, died Sunday, De-

cember 24, 2017, at Trini-

ty Health in Minot.

Michael L. Burckhard

was born July 15, 1920,

the son of Lawrence and

Martina (Sitter) Burck-

hard, in Towner, ND. He

was raised on the Burck-

hard family farm near

Towner and attended

McHenry County Country

School through the eighth

grade.

He enlisted in the Unit-

ed States Army on De-

cember 29, 1942. He

proudly served his coun-

try during WWII and was

stationed in Texas. He

was honorably discharged

October 9, 1943.

On June 26, 1944,

Michael was united in

marriage to Olivia P.

Boechler at Sts. Peter and

Paul Catholic Church in

Karlsruhe. They made

their home on a farm near

Towner, ND, where they

farmed and ranched. In

August of 1957, they

moved and established

the Burckhard farm near

Granville, ND, where they

raised their family. In

1989, they moved into

their home in southeast

Minot. In October of 2009,

they moved into Somerset

Court. Olivia passed away

December 29, 2014.

He was a member of St.

Cecilia’s Catholic Church

in Towner, Our Lady of

Perpetual Help Catholic

Church, Granville, Sts.

Peter and Paul Catholic

Church, in Karlsruhe.

While living in Minot, he

was a member of St. Leo’s

Catholic Church until

transferring to Our Lady

of Grace Catholic Church.

He enjoyed fishing,

wood carving, his tractors,

breaking horses, and had

a lot of pride in raising his

cattle.

His lovingfamily in-

sister-in-law, Mary Ann

Burckhard, Towner; and

numerous nieces and

nephews.

Mike was preceded in

death by his parents,

Lawrence and Martina;

wife of 70 years, Olivia;

granddaughter, Deanna

Thompson, brothers,

John, Anton, Joe, Balzer

and William Burckhard;

sisters, Catherine

Boechler and Regina

Klein; sisters-in-law,

Helen Burckhard, Betty

Burckhard, Barbara

Burckhard and Mary

Burckhard; and

brothers-in-law, Leander

Klein.
