Astrid “Ossie” Rowena
Egeberg, 96, Mohall, form-
erly of Minot, died Sun-
day, November 19, 2017
in a Minot Hospital sur-
rounded by family.
Ossie was born June 30,
1921 on the family farm
in Renville County, North
Dakota the daughter of
Alfred and Engeborg
(Vasenden) Hellebust.
She was raised on the
family farm and educated
at country schools before
graduating from Tolley
High School. She furth-
ered her education at
Concordia College in
Moorhead, MN, where she
received a standard teach-
ers certificate. She
taught at rural Renville
County Schools for
several years, prior to her
marriage to John Egeberg
on September 10, 1943 in
Los Angeles, while he was
stationed there during
World War II.
Ossie and John returned
to North Dakota and pur-
chased a farm in Green-
bush Township of Ward
County, where they
farmed and raised their
two children, Sonja and
Alan. John died October
18, 1993 and Ossie con-
tinued to live on the farm
until moving to Minot in
1996. She had been a
resident of the Mohall
Good Samaritan Nursing
Home for the past 9 years.
Ossie was a former
member of Hamerly Luth-
eran Church, rural
Loraine until it was
closed. She was a
member of the Don-
nybrook Legion Auxiliary,
Trinity Auxiliary and had
volunteered with the
Norsk Hostfest – cele-
brating her Norwegian
Heritage at the Festival.
Her loving family in-
cludes:, son, Alan (Dar-
lene) Egeberg of Minot
and their children:
Stephen (Bethany) Ege-
berg, Harvey and Nichole
Egeberg, Minot.
Great-grandchildren, Alex
(Lisa) Klein, Chase Ege-
berg, Haley Egeberg,
Brynn Bernsdorf, Breya
Egeberg, Braden Egeberg
& Navae Bernsdorf. Brother Finn Hellebust or rural Tolley.
Her daughters loving
family, Carroll Garner El-
dridge of Tennessee and
Great-grandchildren, Jes-
sica (Tony) Tavernese, Re-
becca Eldridge, and
Meagan Eldridge all
Tennessee.
Grand-daughter, Brenda
Kibbel and
Great-grandchildren Heidi
Kibbel, Steven Kibbel,
and Teresa Kibbel all
Tennessee.
And many loving
nieces, nephews,
great-nieces,
great-nephews, and add
many great-greats.
Ossie was preceded in
death by: her parents,
husband, John, brother,
Knute Hellebust, sister,
Marie (Hellebust)
Schouvillier, sister, Millie
(Hellebust) Ess, daughter,
Sonja Eldridge and grand-
son, Alan Eldridge.
A Private family ser-
vice will be held: at a
later date.
Public Gathering and
Celebration of Life ser-
vice: Saturday, November
25, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. in
the Vegas Motel Atrium.
Those who knew her well
know how much she
loved the color red. The
family would enjoy if
those who attend the
Celebration of Life service
to wear something red in
honor of Ossie.
