Maybell A. Corey, 90,
Bowbells, ND, passed
away on Thursday, Oc-
tober 26, 2017 in a Minot
hospital.
Maybell Alzina Beck
was born on December 20,
1926, the daughter of Fred
and Mildred (Greenfield)
Beck on the family farm
in rural Columbus, ND.
She graduated from Lig-
nite High School. She
loved to tell us that she
graduated valedictorian of
her class and the other
classmate was salutatori-
an. She attended Minot
Normal School and re-
ceived a rural teaching
certificate and taught one
school term.
On May 19, 1946, May-
bell was united in mar-
riage to Howard E. Corey
Jr, in Bowbells, ND. They
made their home in
Bowbells, where together
they raised their three
children, Sally, Howard
“Bud” III, and Ron. Ho-
ward passed away on
April 7, 2017. Maybell
worked at the Bowbells
Lumber and Hardware
and retired from Burke
County Social Services.
They wintered in Mesa,
Arizona for 22 years.
She was a member of
the Bowbells United
Methodist Church, the
UMW, and the American
Legion Auxiliary. She
taught Sunday school,
was a youth leader, Cub
Scout Den Mother, and
volunteered at St.
Stephens Food Pantry.
Maybell crocheted hun-
dreds of skull caps for
military helmets, and did
alterations for the former
Baptist Home in Kenmare.
She enjoyed gardening,
canning, bird watching,
playing pinochle, an avid
reader, embroidered many
dishtowels for family and
friends. She baked awe-
some buns, breads, and
pies. She also hosted
many deer hunters.
Maybell was a loving
mother, grandmother,
great-grandmother and
aunt and will be missed
by all that knew her and
loved her.
Maybell is survived by:
daughter, Sally (Dean)
Verstraete, Minot;
daughter-in-law, Roxy
Corey, and son Ron, (Clar-
ice) Corey, all of
Bowbells; five grandchil-
dren, Michael (Joan)
Corey, Kelly (Amanda)
Corey, Kristin (Matt) Dyer,
Alicia (Jeff) Davis, Joy
Anne Corey (Mitch
Strom); 12
great-grandchildren,
Michael, Olivia, Mason,
Kennedy, Cayle, Rylan,
Kellyn, Easton, Luke, Col-
lins, Karsyn, and Griffin;
brothers, Douglas (Arlene)
Beck and Brian (Audrey)
Beck, all of Minot;
sister-in-law, Claudia
(Dennis) Lindberg, Stan-
ley, ND; aunt, Mary Beck,
WA; lifelong friend,
Delores Swehla, Bowbells;
and several nieces,
nephews and cousins also
survive.
Maybell was preceded
in death by: her parents;
husband of 70 years, Ho-
ward E. Corey Jr., son Ho-
ward “Bud'” Corey III, sis-
ter and brother-in-law, Al-
ice and Ken Walleen; and
special neighbors, Smiley
and Jo Johnson and Orluf
and Thelma Petersen.
Visitation: Monday, Oc-
tober 30, 2017, one hour
prior to the service at the
church.
Funeral: Monday, Oc-
tober 30, 2017, at 11:00
am at Bowbells United

Bowbells, ND
