Robert Nickols

Robert J. Nickols, 78,

Minot, passed away on

Monday, May 8, 2017 at

St. Alexius Hospital in

Bismarck with his loving

family by his side from

complications due to

Parkinson’s disease.

Robert John Nickols

was born on June 25,

1938, the son of Irving

and Myrtle (Brown)

Nickols in Powers Lake,

ND. He was raised and

educated in Powers Lake,

graduating in 1956. He

furthered his education by

attending Telegraphy

School in Salt Lake City,

UT, and later attended

Minot Business College.

On January 23, 1962,

Robert was drafted into

the United States Army.

He proudly served his

country as a medic, until

his honorable discharge

on December 18, 1963.

On November 26, 1966,

Robert was united in mar-

riage to Mary Rochelle

“Schelley” Cain in Stan-

ley, ND. They made their

home in Williston, where

Robert began working as a

ticket agent for the Great

Northern Railroad, later

the Burlington

Northern/Santa Fe, retir-

ing in 1992 as the special

agent in charge. He also

sold insurance for a brief

time.

He enjoyed fishing,

reading National Geo-

graphic and spending

time with his family.

Robert was a member of

the Minot American Le-

gion Post #26, ND Peace

Officers Association, St.

John the Apostle Catholic

Church transferring to

Our Lady of Grace Cathol-

ic Church following the

flood.

Robert is survived by:

Wife of 50 years, Schel-

ley, Minot; Daughter:

Kristi (Kevin) Hawk,

Minot Three grandchil-

dren Sloane, Kennedy,

and Raymond, all of

Minot; one brother Roger

Nickols, Fargo, ND;

Robert was preceded in

death by: his father, Irv-

ing, mother Myrtle and

step-father Raymond.

Visitation: Sunday, May

14, 2017 from 3 until 5

pm at Thompson-Larson

Funeral Home, Minot.
