Harlan Hanson

Harlan Duane Hanson,
74, of Bismarck, passed
away on Jan. 22, 2017 at
his home after a 3 month
battle with pancreatic
cancer. A memorial ser-
vice will be held on Mon-
day, Jan. 30, at 10 a.m. at
the Bismarck Funeral
Home (3723 Lockport
Street).
Harlan, son of William
(Bill) and Clara (Brevig)
Hanson, was born on
March 12, 1942 in Minot,
ND. He grew up in
Parshall, ND and graduat-ed from Parshall High
School in May of 1960. He
joined the Army in 1961
and was sent to Fort
Bragg, North Carolina.
Harlan was stationed 50
miles out of Paris France
and did a lot of sightsee-
ing throughout Europe
while there. Upon his
discharge he attended the
State School of Science in
Wahpeton, ND and be-
came a journeyman elec-
trician. He served as an
instructor for the appren-
tice program in Bismarck
for many years.
On May 26, 1973, he
married Janette Clauson
and they had 3 children.
He worked construction at
the 4 power plant north of
Bismarck and later was
employed by WAPA in
Wyoming before transfer-
ring back to Bismarck.
Harlan retired in 2007.
Harlan enjoyed the great
outdoors from skiing in
Colorado, fishing at lakes
in ND and Canada, hunt-
ing in the Kathryn area
and camping all over
western U.S. with his
family. One memorable
camping and hiking trip
was with is youngest
daughter, Nancy, to Red
Lodge in MT. In 1990,
Harlan bet that his first
grandchild, Joey, was go-
ing to arrive on his birth-
day, and he was right.
Family: He is survived
by his wife, Janette Han-
son; one son, Charles, of
Grand Forks, ND; two
daughters, Ginger (Jeff)
Dahl, and Nancy Hanson,
all of Bismarck; and two
grandchildren, Joseph
Metzel and Haley Dahl;
one sister, LouAnn (Jerry)
Steele, of Parshall; and
many nieces and
nephews.
He was preceded in
death by his parents and
one brother, William.
