Delmer Delbert Houim,
79, Velva and formerly of
Tioga, Garrison, Berthold
and Bottineau, died on
Sunday, January 8, 2017
in the Souris Valley Care
Center in Velva following
a long battle with Alzhei-
mers Disease.
Delmer was born on Oc-
tober 13, 1937 in Rolette,
ND to George and Eliza-
beth (Franz) Houim. He
was reared on a farm
south of Rolette and at-
tended rural school. His
father died when he was
young. As a young adult,
he enlisted in the U.S.
Army and served until his
honorable discharge. Fol-
lowing his discharge, he
returned to North Dakota.
Delmer married Mary
Ann Meyer on January 5,
1960 in Cando. They
made their home in Bis-
bee as well as several oth-
er communities in North
Dakota and Minnesota
where Delmer was em-
ployed as a heavy equip-
ment mechanic for several
construction companies.
They resided in Velva for
ten years prior to moving
to Tioga in June of 2013.
Mary Ann died on April
9, 2014. Most recently,
Delmer had resided at Ma-
ple View Memory Care
Unit and the Souris Val-
ley Care Center.
Delmer enjoyed playing
cards and board games
especially pinochle, domi-
noes and spicy farkle as
well as wood working and
tinkering and fixing vehi-
cles.
Delmer’s loving family
includes: his children,
Lucy (Fred) Price of Vel-
va, Kathleen “Kat” Lang
and Karen (Curt) Kittelson
all of Velva, Delmer Jr.
(Annette) Houim and
Danny Houim all of Tioga;
grandchildren: Heather
(Nick) Johnson, JR Price,
Jerald Lang Jr., Heather
Sours, Sarah Pottorff, Bob
Cox, Anne Verseman,
Jasmine Collins, Roxanne
Houim, Brandy (Andy) Er-
ickson, Gayle (Perry)
Lanier, Trevor Bolas, Aus-
tyn Kittelson, Collin (Lak-
en) Kittelson and Adrian-
na Kittelson;
great-grandchildren:
Liam and Noah Johnson,
Jack Tomlinson, Casey,
Shelby and Lance Nicho-
las; Aaron, Kyle and Kin-
dra Burton, James Cox,
Triston and Hayle Verse-
man, Akeelah Collins, Da-
vid and Patrick Lanier and
Henry Erickson; brother:
LaVerne Houim of Wash-
ington and numerous
nieces, nephews and
cousins.
Delmer was preceded in
death by his parents, wife,
daughter Sherry Schuyler,
and siblings Lloyd, Virgil,
Delores and Elaine.

of Delmer Houim: Mon-
day, January 16, 2017 at
2:00 p.m. in Oak Valley
Lutheran Church, Velva.
Interment: Ox Creek
Cemetery, Rolette.
Visitation: Sunday from
1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m.
in Thomas Family Funeral
Home, Minot.
