Verna Elsie Manfolk
Verna Elsie Manfolk,
76, passed away peaceful-
ly on September 6th at
6:30pm at Fairview Hospi-
tal in Wyoming, MN sur-
rounded by friends and
family.
Verna was born in
Minot, ND, to Andrew
and Agnes Strand. She
was a graduate of Minot
High School and Minot
Business College.
She worked at Pietsch
Flying Service in Minot.
She was introduced to
Pastor Ken Manfold, who
was a Lutheran minister
serving as an intern at
Augustana Lutheran
Church. They married in
August of 1961 and began
their joint ministry serv-
ing the Lutheran Church
in Jamestown, ND.
Their only child, An-
drew William Manfolk,
was born on March 7,
1964. Verna spent her
time caring for her new
son and supporting her
husband in serving the
needs of their congrega-
tions.
Along with Pastor Ken,
Verna faithfully served
the Lord Jesus Christ and
His church in Montevi-
deo, Minneapolis, and
Pine City. He served as
pastor at Our Redeemer
Lutheran Church in Pine
City, MN from 1973 to
1990. After leaving Pine
City, they enjoyed a short
retirement period in Hy-
annis, MA, where Pastor
Ken passed away. After
Pastor Ken’s death in
1993, Verna returned to
Pine City, MN, to be
among friends. Again, she
enjoyed being a part of
Our Redeemer Lutheran
Church and serving wher-
ever she was needed.
Verna was preceded in
death by her husband,
Ken, parents, and siblings
Bernard Strand and Mar-
vonne Olson of Minot.
She is survived by her
son Andrew, her sisters
Ardeth Strand, Alma
Bondly, Cis Parge, and
Mildred Lochthowe.
A memorial service will
also be conducted at her
internment at Tabor Luth-
eran Cemetery in Bran-
ford, Connecticut.
