Deloris Stenvold

Deloris Stenvold, 89,

Minot, died peacefully on

Saturday, May 28, 2016 in

her home with her

daughters at her side.

Deloris Mae Signalness

was born on February 24,

1927 in Glenwood, MN to

Oscar and Hannah

(Swensrud) Signalness.

She was born in their

home and her big sister,

Mildred, made her a

homemade dress because

she was so happy to have

a sister! She was raised

and educated in Glen-

wood.

Memories of her child-

hood days included sim-

ple games of “Hopscotch,”

“Jacks,” “Anti-I-Over” and

“Captain May I.” A

highlight of her childhood

(9 years old) was winning

a Shirley Temple doll dur-

ing a Merchants promo-

tion.

Deloris married Joseph

Stenvold on October 7,

1942 in Glenwood, MN

and the family moved to

Minot in 1948. They had

six children. Deloris was

employed at Woolworth’s

Department Store, Kresge

Variety Store, ABC and

Gimse Cleaners, Spain’s

Produce, Elks Lodge in

Minot for 22 years as a

telephone and door moni-

tor and at the Embassy as

a coat check person. Joe

died on October 3, 1985.

Deloris was a longtime

member of Zion Lutheran

Church, where she served

as President of the Church

Women (1995-1996). She

was a proud and active

member and social direc-

tor of the Sons of Norway-

Thor Lodge and also a

member of the Women of

the Moose, Eagles Auxili-

ary and the ND Associa-

tion for the Blind.

When Deloris was 30

years old, she became

visually impaired and

after several surgeries in

NY City, she lost one eye

in 1960. On September

16, 1992 at the University

of Minnesota, she re-

ceived a cornea transplant

and cataract implant in

her right eye. Through the

Lord and her doctor, she

was blessed with sight

again at age 65.

Deloris loved to spend

time with family and

friends and visit on the

phone with them. She

was always willing to

make food for others,

especially lemon mer-

ingue pie, which sold

quickly at the Sons of

Norway bake sales. She

loved to dance, especially

the Polka. If a travel op-

portunity became avail-

able, she was always anxi-

ous to participate.

Deloris’ loving family

includes her children:

Michael (Shirley) Sten-

vold, Shirley (James) Har-

tung and Joe (Beth) Sten-

vold, all of Minot, Thomas

(Twyla) Stenvold, Grand

Forks and Joanne (Mark)

Makelky, Bismarck; 15

grandchildren; 18 great-

grandchildren; a step-

grandson; 3 step-great-

grandchildren; sisters-in-

law: Gloria Signalness

and June Streitz both of

Minot and Laura Liebelt

Deloris was preceded

dred Knudson and Bever-
