Robert Roggenbuck

Robert “Bob” R. Rog-

genbuck, 70, of Binford,

passed away Wednesday,

Sept. 9, 2015, in a Fargo

hospital, surrounded by

family.

Bob was born July 4,

1945, in Minot, to Ray-

mond and Lila (Banna)

Roggenbuck. He grew up

in Minot, graduated from

Minot High School in

1964 and attended Minot

State University. He loved

that as a “Fourth of July

baby” the entire nation

celebrated on his birth-

day. Bob married Betty

Weinberger, of Turtle

Lake, on Nov. 19, 1974.

Bob and Betty lived in

numerous North Dakota

communities as Bob was

engaged in a law enforce-

ment career and Betty

worked in health care and

home help services. Betty

passed away Nov. 19,

2011.

Bob was a graduate of

the North Dakota Law En-

forcement Training Cen-

ter, Bismarck, and worked

more than 38 years in law

enforcement across North

Dakota. He served as a

deputy sheriff in Burke,

Foster, Griggs, McLean,

Ransom, Stark and Ward

counties and as a police

officer in Minot and West

Fargo. Bob served as the

chief of police in Ashley,

Enderlin, Medora, Rich-

ardton and Westhope. He

retired in November 2008

as the chief of police in

Ashley. Bob took great

pleasure in working in

smaller communities

where the role of one per-

son serving as a commu-

nity leader has a greater

impact on others.

Bob established and

worked with law enforce-

ment explorer groups,

career-oriented programs

designed to give young

people experience in

working with law enforce

ment officers. He enjoyed

working with youth and

community groups and

worked to have a positive

influence in each of the

communities he served.

Bob was a longtime

member of the North

Dakota Association of

Chiefs of Police and

served as president of the

organization in 2001-

2002. He also chaired the

Southwest Crime Confer-

ence in Dickinson. Bob

was a member of the

North Dakota Peace Off-

icers Association, North

Dakota Sheriffs and Depu-

ties Association, National

Sheriffs Association,

Southcentral Crime Con-

ference, Badlands Combat

Shooters, International

Blue Knights North Dako-

ta Chapter #1, Fraternal

Order of Eagles and

Knights of Columbus.

Bob and Betty enjoyed

traveling and working to-

gether on woodworking,

crafts and gardening pro-

jects.

Bob is survived by:

children, Heather (Bren-

dan) Bunn, Fargo, and

Mike Presser, Aurora,

Colo.; grandchildren, Grif-

fin and Hadley Bunn; sis-

ters, Linda (Henry) Pa-

trick, Newport, Wash.,

Laurie (Richard) Pinnell,

Rancho Cordova, Calif.,

and Dawn Werre, Minot;

brother, Dan (Sandy) Rog-

genbuck, Phoenix; and

numerous cousins, niec-

es, nephews and friends.

Bob was preceded in

death by: his wife, parents

and grandparents.

Memorial: Will be pri-

vate after which the ashes

of Bob and Betty will be

scattered together in their

favorite place, near

Medora.

Bob felt great apprecia-

tion for all of the generous

help and comfort received

from family and friends,

as well as the hospital and

nursing home staff, dur-

ing the illnesses he and

Betty endured.
