Genevieve Thorenson,
96, of Minot, formerly of
Newburg, died Friday,
Aug. 28, 2015, in a
Minot nursing home.
Genevieve Thorenson,
a daughter of Sam and
Jennie (Teburg) Mickel-
son, was born May 9,
1919, near Upham. She
attended school at
Russell before graduating
from Souris High School
in 1937. On December
16, 1939, she married Al-
bert Thorenson at Landa.
In the early 1940s, they
purchased the Simon
Zimmer farm one mile
south of Newburg where
they lived and farmed
until they retired in
1975. Albert passed
away on Aug. 8, 1991.
Genevieve stayed on the
farm until 2003 when
she moved into the
Brentmoor Assisted Liv-
ing Center in Minot.
She was a member of
Dovre Lutheran Church
in Newburg where she
was active in WELCA.
She was also a member
of the Newburg Senior
Citizens and the Sons of
Norway. Genevieve loved
music. She played piano
and the accordion. She
enjoyed her family and
friends, helping others,
journaling, photography,
gardening, canning,
quilting and baking
bread.
Survivors: Genevieve
is survived by three
daughters, Judith
(Darwin) Hunskor, of
Newburg, Ruby Berent-
son, of Westhope, and
Marie (Donald) Farden,
of Minot; two sons, Mau-
rice (Sandra) Thorenson,
of Mandan, and Dale
(Cindy) Thorenson, of
Washington, D.C.; 16
grandchildren; 23
great-grandchildren; and
several nieces and
nephews.
In addition to her hus-
band and parents, she
was preceded in death
by her brother, Theodore
Mickelson; sisters, Edith
Eliason, Alida Potter and
Edna Brandt and one
son-in-law, Jerry Berent-
son.
Funeral: 10 a.m. Mon-
day, Aug. 31, 2015, in
Dovre Lutheran Church,
Newburg.
Visitation: 1 to 9 p.m.
today at Nero Funeral
Home, Bottineau.
Burial: Dovre Lutheran
Cemetery, Newburg.
