Harley Johnson

Harley George Johnson, 68, passed away into the hands of the Lord on Dec. 29, 2014, with his family by his side at the VA Hospital in Fargo.
Harley was born Oct. 9, 1946, to George and Agnes (Wiltse) Johnson in Minot. He was raised and educated in Deering, graduating from Deering High School in 1965. Following his graduation, Harley worked for area farmers.
On Nov. 13, 1966, Harley was drafted into the U.S. Army. He completed basic training at Fort Benning, Ga., and then served 22 months in the Panama Canal Zone, until his honorable discharge on Oct. 13, 1968.
Harley was united in marriage to Evelyn Schmaltz on Nov. 1, 1985, in Minot. He started in the spring of 1986 working at the Ray and Jerry Miller Farm and has worked there for 28 years. He was not only an employee but also considered family. He was employed by Agritec at the time of his death.
Harley especially enjoyed spending time with his family. His hobbies included fishing, hunting, working on puzzles, traveling, collecting John Wayne memorabilia and reading old western books.
Harley was loved by many and will be truly missed.
His loving family include: wife of 29 years Evelyn, Deering; his stepdaughters, Lynn (Larry) Erickson, Marysville, Wash., Teri (Marlin Hansen) Nelson, Deering, and Shelly (Brian) Wintermute, Granville; one brother, Lanny(Pam) Johnson of Minot; brother-in-law, David (Cindy) Wagner Sr., Callender, Iowa; grandchildren, Kacy (Amy Michels) Nelson, Minot, Stacie Nelson, Minot, Kayla Wintermute, Minot, and Bradley (Brittany Barnhart) Wintermute, Granville; great-grandchilden, Weylin Nelson, Minot; nieces, Dawn(Steve) Scholtec, Plain City, Utah, Georgia (Tory) Judd, Syracuse, Utah, Karen(Tyler Witt) Swenson, Minot; nephews, David Wagner, Plain City, Utah, Kenneth Wagner, Layton, Utah, Kevin (Erica Jorde) Johnson, Upham, stepnieces, Lisa Ganje, Deering, Karla Ganje, Ruthville, and Jenny Ganje, Denver, Colo.; great-nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
Harley was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Mary and Peggy; sister in-law Bonnie; son-in-law Warren Nelson; and stepson, Clint Schmaltz.
Visitation: from noon until 5 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 4, 2015, at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.
Funeral Service: at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 5, 2015, at Bethany Lutheran Church, Minot.
Burial: at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the Deering Lutheran Cemetery, Deering.
