Dorothy Hanson
Dorothy A. Hanson, 87, Bismarck, died Monday, Oct. 6, 2014, at St. Alexius Medical Center, Bismarck. Dorothy currently resided at Edgewood Vista at the Village, Bismarck.
Dorothy was born Feb. 6, 1927, in a Danish community near Westby, Mont., the daughter of Walter and Dagmar (Hansen) Olesen. She graduated from Crosby High School in 1944. Following graduation she moved to Portland, Ore., to work in the Portland shipyards. She later returned home to the Crosby area where she met and married local farmer, Kermit E. Hanson, on Feb. 8, 1948. The couple made their home on a farm in Lincoln Valley Township and raised a family of four daughters and one son. Dorothy enjoyed a long and successful career as the business manager for Divide County School District. She retired in 1989, returning to her life as a farm wife.
Dorothy loved traveling, gardening, playing cards and visiting with her friends and family. Dorothy was known to enjoy her time at the casino. Her life revolved around her family and she took pride in their achievements and treasured time spent together. One of the major highlights of Dorothy’s life was traveling with her family to England and Denmark.
Dorothy is survived by: her children, Dianna (Gene) Hysjulien, Bismarck, Charlene Throntveit, Mission Viejo, Calif., Sherry (Lewis) Heaton, of McKenzie, Susan (Bruce) Carlson, Alexandria, Va., and Kent Hanson, Minot; her grandchildren, Jeff (Kim) Hysjulien, Shannon Hysjulien (Joe Krocheski), Kristin Hysjulien, Steven (Shelly) Carlson, Andrew Carlson and Ella Heaton; her great-grandchildren, Autumn and Amber Hysjulien and Hunter Carlson; her sister, Marcella Peterson, Bremerton, Wash.; her sisters-in-law, Grace Olson, Jean Olesen, Jeannie (Don) Griffin, Marie Krebs and Adrienne (Ronald) Hattel; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by: her husband, Kermit; three brothers, Robert Olson, Harold (Mary Ellen) Olesen and Dan Olesen; four sisters, Edna (Milton) Andersen, Ethel (Orville) Vassen, Helen Lutz and Mildred (James) Rosenquist; and sister-in-law, Rodella (Leonard) Larson.
Services will be held: at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 10, at Ambrose Lutheran Church, Ambrose, with Rev. Zachariah Shipman officiating.
Burial will be held at Twin Butte Lutheran Cemetery, rural Ambrose.
Visitation will be held: from 3 to 8 p.m. today, Wednesday, Oct. 8, at Eastgate Funeral Service, 2302 East Divide Ave., Bismarck, and from 1 to 2 p.m. Friday at the church.
