Evelyn Kasper

Evelyn A. Kasper, 93, Minot, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 16, 2014, at ManorCare Health Services in Minot.

Evelyn Ardella Field was born Aug. 17, 1921, the daughter of Hjalmer and Lena (Olson) Field, on the family farm located north of Butte. She was raised on the family farm and attended country schools in the area. She graduated from Butte high School as the salutatorian of her class in 1939. Evelyn was proud of her Norwegian heritage and could speak the language most of her life.

Evelyn met Joseph Kasper while in high school and they were high school sweethearts. When World War II began, Joe joined the Army Air Corps and Evy went to work in the shipyards, insulating battleships to help the war effort. When the war was over, they married on Jan. 10, 1947, in Butte. They made their home in Butte, where they owned and operated the grocery/dry goods store for a time.

In 1953, they moved to Minot, where Evy stayed home with her two daughters, Beverly “Bev” and Bonita “Bonnie” for many years cooking, baking, and being a mom. Evy worked in downtown Minot for many years, the last of which, was Minot Drug for 20 years. Evy loved to sew, crochet, and take care of her yard. Evy enjoyed trips to the casino and her “tickets.” Her last gambling trip was on her 90th birthday.

Evy became a resident of ManorCare at the age of 90. She continued to be the wonderful, loving, caring mother she always had been.

Evelyn is survived by her daughter, Bev Elberg, Minot; granddaughters, Denae (Garrett) Bossert, Velva, and Dena (Michael) Houmann, Minot; grandsons, Cody Kluck and Callahan Kluck, both of North Glen, Colo.; former son-in-law, Clive Kluck, Aurora, Colo.; twin great-granddaughters, Riley and Kennedy Blackburn; step great-grandsons, Gage and Gavin Bossert; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Don and Beaty Kasper, Minot; sister-in-law, Sally Kasper, Fargo; brother-in-law, Terry Heil, Seattle; and many nieces and nephews.

Evelyn was preceded in death by, her husband, Joseph Kasper, who passed away in September 1994; her daughter, Bonnie Kluck, who passed away in January 2014; sister, Doris Madison; and many sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.

Funeral: Friday, Sept. 19, 2014, at 2 p.m. at Christ Lutheran Church, Minot.

Interment: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot.

Visitation: Friday, one hour prior to the service, at the church.

Memorials: are preferred to Christ Lutheran Church Building Fund or to an organization of the donor’s choice.
