Robert Hurdelbrink

Robert “Bob” Harry Hurdelbrink, 90, Minot, died Wednesday, Aug. 13, 2014, at his residence.

Bob was born Nov. 20, 1923, at Sherwood, the son of George and Maurine (Fuller) Hurdelbrink. He was raised and educated at Sherwood and Eden Valley rural schools. He graduated from Sherwood High School in 1942. Bob was united in marriage to Cora Lunde on Nov. 25, 1944, at Bottineau.

Bob began employment with the Great Northern Railway in 1942. He and Cora made their home in various North Dakota communities while he was employed with the railroad. Some of these included, Hope, for two years, Sherwood for 12 years, Leeds for 16 years and Devils Lake for nine years. He retired in 1984 as the depot and traveling agent in Devils Lake. They moved to Minot in 1985.

Bob was a longtime member of First Lutheran Church. He taught Sunday school and served on the church councils in Sherwood and Leeds. He was a member of the Sons of Norway, NARVRE, Golden K Kiwanis Club, ORT (Order of Railroad Telegraphers), Moose Lodge and a former member of the Minot Elks and Eagles clubs. He also played in the Elks Band and served on the school boards in Sherwood and Leeds. He was an avid coin collector, golfer and pinochle player. He liked entertaining with his musical instruments and trick rope for reunions and gatherings.

Bob’s loving family includes: his wife of nearly 70 years, Cora; daughters, Nancy (Robert) Silliman, York, and their children Randy (Brenda) and their children Mckenzie and Joey, Timothy (Susie) and their boys Wyatt, Ethan and Garrett; Debra Pierson, Fargo, and her children Emma (Duane) Broe and Jordan Pierson; June Kraft, Minot, and her children Jennifer (Jason) Jenssen and their daughter Cadence, Kendall (Carrie) Schieve and their daughters Bevin and Claire; his siblings, sister, Marilyn Carter, Sherwood, and brother, Max (Leone) Hurdelbrink, Minot; sisters-in-law, Mary Lou Hurdelbrink, of Dallas, and Viola Richardson, Hebron; brother-in-law, Wayne Lunde, Franklin, Wis.; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by: his parents; infant great-grandsons, Carson and Colton; brothers, Burl (Grace) Hurdelbrink, Ben (Dottie) Hurdelbrink, Bill and Cloyd Hurdelbrink; sisters-in-law, Nona Hurdelbrink, Linda Lunde and Della (John) Nelson; brothers-in-law, Howard (Evelyn) Lunde and Orville Richardson.

Funeral service: Today, Friday, Aug. 15, at 2 p.m. in First Lutheran Church of Minot.

Interment: Rosehill Memorial Park of Minot.

In lieu of flowers or plants, memorials are preferred to First Lutheran Church or the Railroad Museum, both Minot.
