Sharon A. Schaan

Sharon was born to parents Maz and Ruth Rockert, Nov. 24, 1936, in Minot, N.D. She attended St. Leo’s High School in Minot, and graduated from cosmetology school shortly after high school.

Sharon married the love of her life, Fred Schaan, on Jan. 7, 1957. Their life together began as a real life love at first sight story, but according to Fred, she played hard to get for three years. Well, just like in the storybook his charm won her over, and the story of our family began.

The adventurous souls that they were, they decided to pack up their young family and move out west to the state of Washington, where they settled in Zillah April 2, 1962. Starting with little more than their faith in God and one another, they set roots and purchased their first farm. As their farm grew so did their family, and their love for each other. They worked hand in hand together raising six children on the family farm, where Sharon instilled her joy for life and love in each one.

After farming for over 40 years they decided it was time to retire. They enjoyed their retirement together traveling around the country in their RV, visiting family and friends along the way, making memories we will always cherish. They were fishing buddies too, and spent countless hours soaking in the sun, trolling around looking for the best Walleye spots. Sharon enjoyed being surrounded by her family. So many joyous moments and cherished memories were made at family gatherings. Her meals were legendary in our family. No matter the occasion, if “Grandma” was cooking, you were coming and nobody left hungry.

Sharon was a special person. Her unconditional love will be missed by everyone who knew her. She lives on in the memories we have and the lives she touched. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. Sharon, mom, grandma, we love you, and will never forget you.

She is survived by: her loving husband, Fred Schaan, of Zillah; son, Joel Schaan, of Zillah; daughters, Sharon Horton, of Richland, Wash.; Sandra Thompson, of Yakima, Wash.; Jane Boglivi, of Gold Bar, Wash.; 14 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; and only leaving behind one sibling, Mary Aldaco, of San Antonio, Texas.

A Rosary will be held: Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2014, at 6 p.m., at Valley Hills Funeral Home in Zillah.

Mass of Christian Burial: Will be Wednesday, Jan. 15, at 10 a.m., at Resurrection Catholic Church in Zillah. Internment will follow in the Zillah Cemetery.
