COVID-19 cases increase in ND

Influenza and RSV cases showed a decrease in North Dakota while COVID-19 cases had a slight increase, according to recent data released by the North Dakota Department of Health and Human Services.

The current respiratory disease surveillance data for N.D. is for the week ending Saturday, March 28.

The report provides a summary of respiratory disease activity in North Dakota, including influenza, COVID-19 and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV).

Data are used for disease surveillance and monitoring of trends. All data are preliminary and subject to revision.

North Dakota reported 431 influenza cases, reflecting a slight decrease from the prior week, and 189 RSV cases, a decrease. COVID-19 cases increased to 77 statewide.

Since the beginning of the 2025-26 respiratory season on Aug. 1, North Dakota has reported 12,100 influenza cases, 5,127 COVID-19 cases and 1,440 RSV cases.

Vital records data show 24 influenza-related deaths, 41 COVID-19-related deaths and one RSV-related death reported during the season to date.

Fifteen influenza-related hospitalizations, nine COVID-19 hospitalizations and 28 RSV hospitalizations, all a decrease from the prior week, were reported.

Season-to-date hospitalization totals statewide include 949 influenza-related hospitalizations, 695 COVID-19-related hospitalizations and 216 RSV-related hospitalizations.

Outpatient surveillance data collected through the Influenza-Like Illness Network (ILINet) indicated a statewide influenza-like illness percentage of 1.39%, a decrease from the prior week.

Influenza test positivity was 16.72%, a decrease from the prior week. COVID-19 test positivity declined to 1.17%, while RSV test positivity increased to 17.1%.

State health officials also reported that 26.76% of North Dakota residents ages 6 months and older have received an influenza vaccination this season, an increase from the prior week.

Based on current surveillance indicators, influenza and COVID-19 activity in North Dakota was classified as moderate with no change from the prior week. RSV activity was categorized as moderate while increased from the prior week statewide.
