Suspect who exchanged gunfire with Bismarck police has died

BISMARCK (AP) — A man who exchanged gunfire with police in Bismarck has been found dead in a shed of an apparent gunshot wound, authorities said.

According to officials, an investigation into a stolen vehicle led them to a trailer house Monday morning, where a person fled out of a back door and officers pursued him on foot. During the chase police say the man shot at officers and an exchange of gunfire occurred.

The West Dakota SWAT team responded and a perimeter was set up around the trailer court. Police believe the suspect barricaded himself in a shed on the property, which is where they later found his body.

It is unclear if the suspect’s gunshot was self-inflicted or happened in the earlier exchange of gunfire. Police said no officers were injured.
