The Foundation for Agricultural and Rural Resources Management and Sustainability (FARRMS) is hosting two free webinars this fall to help farmers explore organic production opportunities, access available USDA support programs, and better understand the organic certification process. The webinars are designed for both producers considering organic transition and those actively pursuing certification.
The webinars will be held Oct. 19 and Nov. 2 from 6-7:30 p.m. Registration is required and can be completed online at farrms.org/event-list.
During the first webinar, "Understanding USDA Support for Organic Producers," representatives from the Natural Resources Conservation Service and Farm Service Agency will cover the financial assistance, conservation programs, and technical support available to help with organic transition, conservation practices and farm improvement projects. Participants will also learn how to prepare for meetings with USDA staff, navigate application requirements and connect with organizations that provide technical assistance throughout the organic transition process.
The second webinar, "Building Your Organic Certification Team," will focus on selecting the right certifier and building a strong network of support. Participants will hear directly from organic certifiers about their certification processes, services, and considerations when choosing a certifying agency. Two experienced organic producers will also share the lessons they learned, what helped them most, and how to avoid common mistakes for navigating certification successfully.
“Navigating organic transition can feel overwhelming, especially when producers are trying to understand available resources and certification requirements,” said Renae Gress, program coordinator at FARRMS. “These webinars connect producers directly with experts, certifiers, and fellow farmers who can provide practical guidance and support throughout the process.”
This program is supported through the USDA Transition to Organic Partnership Program, part of the USDA Organic Transition Initiative and administered by the USDA Agricultural Marketing Service National Organic Program.
