WASHINGTON -The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has awarded more than $27 million through the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) to help North Dakota households and tribal communities afford home heating and energy costs, U.S. Sens. John Hoeven and Kevin Cramer announced.
The funding includes: $20.76 million to the State of North Dakota; nearly $2.46 million to the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa; $1.64 million to the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe; $1.36 million to the Spirit Lake Tribe; and $1.09 million to the Three Affiliated Tribes at Fort Berthold.
LIHEAP is a federally funded program that helps eligible low-income households manage home energy costs, including heating assistance and energy-related emergencies.
