ELOISE OGDEN/MDN An exhibit in the Dakota Territory Air Museum in Minot features World War II veteran Elmer A. Anderson, including items he brought back from his service time overseas.

Men from many areas of the United States were members of the 104th "Timberwolf" Division, which took a vital role in World War II. Elmer A. Anderson of Wildrose was among the infantry division's members.

An exhibit in the Dakota Territory Air Museum in Minot shows various items that belonged to Anderson, who enlisted in the U.S. Army following the U.S. entry into World War II. Some of the items were brought back to the U.S. after Anderson was overseas.

According to history compiled for the exhibit, Anderson, who was born in 1913 in Wildrose, served with the 104th, which saw combat in France, Belgium, Holland and Germany. The division was responsible for liberating the concentration camp at Nordhausen, Germany, in April 1945.

The items displayed were donated to the museum by Anderson’s family.

In the exhibit are an U.S. Army "Ike" jacket owned by Tech. Sgt. Anderson, Anderson's dog tags, a Faithful Service Medal, an enlisted man insignia, a marching compass and other items.

Jenna Grindberg, museum director, created the Anderson exhibit and other new exhibits with artifacts and stories not previously displayed until the 2026 season.

The museum's final day of the 2026 season is Sunday, Oct. 18. Visits are by appointment during the off season. This winter the museum is offering fully-guided World War II History Tours featuring the warplanes at the museum. The tours will be held during November-January. Those interested can contact the museum at 852-8500.
