A chainsaw wood-carving competition will be held in Minot from Tuesday through Saturday, Oct. 6-10. It will take place in the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge #822 parking lot. The competition is free to attend and open to the public.
Carve Wars, started by Joe Wenal, a professional chainsaw carver, is a competition in which participants race to create wood carvings as quickly as possible, although the Minot competition will be based more on quality than speed. The Minot competition also will be judged by votes rather than auction prices, the usual scoring method for the Carve Wars competition.
Carvers will be active from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. each day of the competition. Quick carve demonstrations will also take place from 4-5 p.m., Thursday and Friday.
