BISMARCK - The North Dakota School Boards Association (NDSBA) recognized Velva School District Business Manager Skyler Helseth and Powers Lake School District Business Manager Shayna Johnson as graduates of the North Dakota School Business Managers Certification Program (NDSBMCP) during its annual convention on Oct. 8 in Bismarck.

The certification program offers 20 college level courses designed to strengthen leadership and professional expertise among school business officials by providing comprehensive training in school finance, operations, governance, human resources and other key areas of school administration. Business Managers must complete 52 credit hours of course instruction along with nine hours of professional development training within five years to graduate from the program.

NDSBA also honored South Prairie School District Business Manager Barb Magnuson, who achieved recertification through the NDSBMCP. Recertification recognizes school business managers who have continued their professional development beyond initial program completion. To maintain their certification status, participants must complete 15 hours of ongoing training and educational opportunities over a three-year period.

Established in 2013, the North Dakota School Business Manager Certification Program courses are taught by superintendents, business managers, and state officials who are experts in their respective fields. The program is administered by the North Dakota School Boards Association in partnership with the North Dakota School Association of School Business Managers. It was started with the assistance of a state legislative grant.
