WATFORD CITY - The City of Watford City will begin demolition work this fall as part of the Downtown Redevelopment Area 2 project. The City has contracted with local contractor TTK of Watford City to remove three retired buildings and prepare the site for future retail and commercial development.
"We're excited to replace the current Main Street buildings with newer, more efficient retail and commercial space that we all understand is so badly needed in our downtown. The additional retail space will support our business community and grow commerce in Watford City," Mayor Phil Riely said.
Demolition is expected to begin Monday, Sept. 21, and continue for approximately three weeks. Work will take place Monday through Saturday from 7 a.m.-5 p.m. The City and TTK will work to minimize disruption, but motorists and businesses should expect temporary impacts in the area. Throughout the demolition period, northbound Main Street will be closed between Second and Third Avenues, with traffic detoured to the west.
"While we all work through the pains of progress together, we ask for the public's patience," City Administrator Curt Moen said.
"City Council is excited for the future redevelopment plans to improve Area 2, as they understand the importance of a strong and vibrant Main Street for Watford City. The last substantial Main Street retail and commercial expansion project investments were made over a decade ago. We look to Area 2 to spark a reboot of Main Street vibrancy, one that will draw private capital and investment back to the core of our community."
Motorists traveling through the area should follow posted detours and use caution near the work zone.
