WATFORD CITY - Save the Maah Daah Hey, Watford City, was among organizations receiving grants from First International Bank & Trust's 12th Annual Live First Community Giving Campaign.
FIBT announced awards totaling 475,000 to eight organizations.
Save the Maah Daah Hey received a Trail Blazer Award of $10,000. Save the Maah Daah Hey preserves, maintains and expands the Maah Daah Hey Trail and related trail systems across McKenzie County and western North Dakota. The funding will support trail maintenance, equipment, operations and a youth mountain bike program at Cherry Creek Trail that introduces local children to outdoor recreation and trail safety.
FIBT reported it received 286 applications from communities served in North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota and Arizona. This year's winners represent a wide range of needs, including child advocacy, family support, housing stability, veterans' services, behavioral health, outdoor recreation, animal rescue and community connection.
"These organizations are meeting real needs in their communities, and we are honored to help support their work," said Peter Stenehjem, chief executive officer. "The number of applications we received shows how many people are stepping forward to make a difference. We are proud to help spread these funds across our footprint and celebrate the organizations creating lasting local impact."
Other North Dakota organizations receiving grants were:
- Family Crisis Shelter, Williston, for services to victims of domestic violence and sexual assault, Community Builder Award of $5,000.
- Dunn County Roundup, Killdeer, a resource center and food pantry, Community Builder Award of $5,000.
- Golden Drive Homeless Kids of Fargo, to raise awareness of youth homelessness and direct donations to local shelters, families and schools, Community Builder Award of $5,000.
- Heartview Foundation, Bismarck, to assist with substance use treatment and mental health support, Community Builder Award of $5,000.
- Kitty City, Mandan, a cage-free sanctuary for disabled and FIV-positive cats and healthy cat adoption center, Campfire Choice Award (public vote), $5,000.
