Two tornados and areas of large hail came with rain storms that moved through northwest and central North Dakota Sunday, Sept. 6, and Labor Day Monday, according to National Weather Service information.
A stormchaser reported to the NWS a tornado about eight miles southwest of Arnegard Sunday evening. The tornado touched down briefly. Another tornado was spotted by a weather observer Monday evening about six miles south of Strawberry Lake in McLean County. The tornado lasted less than a minute, but the storm was reported to continue to rotate after the tornado dissipated.
Hail of about 1.75 inches, considered golf ball size, fell Sunday evening in an area from 5-7 miles south of Watford City and was reported to have caused some damage. One residence had a window and shop light broken and window frame and skirting damage.
Hail of a similar size was reported in McLean County, four miles southwest of Ruso, Monday evening.
One-inch hail occurred at Fort Stevenson State Park near Garrison Sunday morning. Large hail also was noted 11 miles northeast of Alexander Sunday evening.
