NEW TOWN - The MHA Nation will host its second annual Ruck Walk in support of veterans mental health awareness Friday, Sept. 18, at the Three Affiliated Tribes National Park, about 40 miles southeast of New Town along N.D. Highway 22.

A welcome and opening remarks will begin at 9 a.m., followed by the Ruck Walk at 9:30 a.m.

Those taking part in the event will include MHA Nation Chairman Mark Fox, MHA Tribal Business Council, MHA Veterans Affairs, Three Affiliated Tribes National Park staff and others who would like to participate.

The walk is approximately 3.8 miles in total, trekking across the east side trail. Participants are encouraged to carry 22 pound weighted backpacks or vests to symbolize the 22 veterans who succumb to their battle with PTSD every day, however it is not required.

According to MHA Nation information, the event also is in support of veterans suicide awareness. Native Americans and Alaska Natives serve in the armed forces roughly five times the national average
