An area in northwest Minot has been designated as a revitalization zone for housing and economic development.
The Minot City Council voted Monday, Sept. 21, to adopt the Northwest Minot Targeted Housing and Community Revitalization Plan, creating the designation at the request of Beyond Shelter, a Fargo-based affordable housing developer with past and current projects in Minot.
Beyond Shelter sought the designation to aid in working with the City of Minot and North Dakota Housing Finance Agency to expand affordable housing in the community. Establishing the Northwest Minot Revitalization Area and adopting a plan better positions qualifying developments within the designated area to compete for federal and state funding resources and attract other investment.
The plan does not replace, or modify the Minot 2040 Comprehensive Plan or land development maps or ordinances, nor does it commit the city to investing any funds or giving any zoning applicants preferential treatment.
It does establish an objective framework for coordinated housing and economic development within a defined portion of northwest Minot. The revitalization area includes all of northwest Minot from the airport to the western edge of the city's extraterritorial area as well as the extraterritorial area north of U.S. Highway 2 & 52.
The plan will be in effect through 2036.
