Produced water spill occurs

WILLISTON - Prima Exploration, Inc. reported to state officials that a produced water spill occurred at the Smoky Butte 1 SWD site, 36 miles north of Williston on Tuesday, Sept. 8.

The North Dakota Oil and Gas Division was notified that 800 barrels of produced water were released onto the Divide County location. As of Wednesday, Sept. 9, a total of 1,000 barrels has been recovered, including 200 barrels of rainwater.

Produced water is a byproduct of oil and gas production.

A N.D. Oil and Gas inspector has been to the location and will monitor any additional cleanup required.
