October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and Vitalant is encouraging donors to help ensure blood and platelet supplies are available for patients undergoing cancer treatment.
About a quarter of the U.S. blood supply and more than half of donated platelets are used to support cancer patients, many of whom require transfusions during chemotherapy, surgery and recovery. Platelets are especially needed because they have a shelf life of just seven days.
As a special thank you for donating in October, donors have two chances to win a "monstrous" $10,000 gift card. Donors automatically will be entered into the Scary Good Giveaway.
