MSU Homecoming Parade marks 100 years

Minot State University marked a century of tradition with its Homecoming Parade on Saturday, Sept. 19.
The parade started at 10:30 a.m., at Third Avenue Southeast, moving onto Main Street in downtown Minot and traveled to the Minot State campus. Many clubs, businesses and others had floats that participated. People gathered along the streets to watch the units pass by. Much to the delight of children, candy was thrown out throughout the parade.
Several spectators were asked their opinions about the parade.
Kris Schwan said she really enjoyed the activities and also the band that played in the beginning of the parade. She said she felt the parade was done very well.
Lily Gourdin said the parade was charming and she liked its small town appeal. She said this was her last parade as her family is moving to Arizona. She said she really liked how children got books at the parade.
Billi Gunderson said her favorite float was the”Charlotte's Web” entry and how creative this float was. Looking ahead to the future, she felt spectators should be encouraged to clean up litter after the procession.
Many agreed this year’s 100th anniversary parade was special.
