Minot zoo’s giraffe has new home

Roosevelt Park Zoo staff in Minot recently gave farewell to its 10-month-old giraffe Khari as he begins his new journey that will support the long-term survival of his endangered species.
According to zoo information, Khari was born at the Minot zoo in November 2025. He joins a herd of females and contribute to efforts supporting endangered reticulated giraffe populations at Cheyenne Mountain Zoo in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
The transition mirrors natural giraffe behavior in the wild, where young males leave their family groups, known as towers, to establish their own paths. Relocating Khari at this stage helps reduce stress, supports their natural development and creates space for future giraffe populations at Roosevelt Park Zoo.
Through participation in the Species Survival Plan and coordinated partnerships nationwide, the zoo remains committed to protecting wildlife, supporting sustainable animal populations and inspiring the community to care for species at home and around the world.
The Minot zoo celebrates the value of animals and natural resources, while creating opportunities for people to rediscover their connection to nature.
