GARRISON - An environmental review has found no significant impacts from system improvements proposed by the Garrison Rural Water District, according to the North Dakota Department of Environmental Quality.
The current system cannot keep up with pressure demands in western service areas, according to NDDEQ information. The western area is the farthest from the water source, which has made water availability and pressure limited during peak demands. By constructing a new pump station and reservoir, the pressure and water demands can be stable throughout peak usage timeframes.
Total cost of the project is estimated at just over $1.43 million. The Garrison Rural Water District water system has applied for a Drinking Water State Revolving Fund loan to finance the project.
The project site will be located along North Dakota Highway 37, west of 46th Avenue Northwest. Public comments regarding the state's finding of No Significant Impact may be submitted to Danielle Peltier, environmental engineer, Division of Municipal Facilities, North Dakota Department of Environmental Quality, 4201 Normandy St., Bismarck, ND, 58503-1324.
After evaluating the comments received, but no sooner than 30 days, the department will make a final decision.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers also has reviewed the project and determined that a Section 404 permit is required if dredge or fill material is discharged to waters of the United States.
